Chiesa parrocchiale della Modonna della Neve

The church is dedicated to the “Our Lady of the snow” – “Madonna della Neve”. Its construction started in June 1909 (designed by the engineer Giuseppe Gallo from Turin), and finished in October 1912. The church shows a neo-gothic style and a Latin cross plan. Before the church, there is a wide flight of steps. The façade is divided into 3 vertical bodies. On the portals, you can see the high-relieves made by Oreste Torello from Biella. The bell tower (54 m.), shows mullioned windows on its higher part and ends with a balustrade and a dome. At the four corners there are the sculptures of the evangelists. In the inside of the church, four columns support a triple vault. The Baptistery, at the beginning of the left aisle, shows precious stuccoes and wooden statues; four chapels open the lateral walls. In the presbytery, circled by a balustrade made of Carrara white marble and Siena yellow marble, there is a 1700s marble altar that brought here in 1912.
Other interesting things to see are: the glass windows of the choir, in the five-sided apse, made in Linnich, Germany. At its bases you can see the Coats of arms of the Del Carretto and Scarampi Houses. The frescoes on the two arms of the transept, the “Il Miracolo della Neve” (the miracle of the snow) - source of the construction of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome - and the “Storie di Maria”, (stories of the Virgin Mary) were painted by Luigi Morgari as well as the triptych of the lateral chapels. The decorations of the apse, of the vault and of the presbytery were made by the painter Fedele Finati.
