Cappella di Sant'Anna (St Anne chapel)

The rural St Anna chapel stands in the shadow of a wooded steep bank. Its existing form dates back to 1903, when it was last reconstructed. Its foundation is linked to an event that has been handed down from generation to generation. In the year 1506 people of different Langa villages prayed in turn for the rain. People of La Morra organized a pilgrimage to Savona, where the miracle appearance of the Vergine della Misericordia (the Virgin of the Mercy) was attracting popular devotion. They got there after 3 days (via Barolo, Monforte, Bossolasco and Millesimo). On their way back, a terrible storm broke out when they were in Torricella hamlet, not far from the ancient pylon dedicated to St Anna. Here they prayed and no pilgrim got wet.
Where there once was the old pylon, the devoted people of La Morra and Monforte built a chapel dedicated to St Anna. Every 7 years, (according to a vow) a procession started from la Morra, and people of Monforte joined it by the Settevie Chapel (Seven ways Chapel) and the procession went on to St Anna. This vow is still renewed every 7 years.
